Gina Miozza on Cedars Home Health Care

Welcome to The Cedars’ family tree. Today we are introducing Gina Miozza. Gina is a nurse at Cedars Home Health. Read about how she found the right role for her in skilled nursing and listen to her discuss The Cedar’s home health care in Rhode Island.

Home Health Care in Rhode Island

During a typical day, Gina visits patients in their homes throughout Cranston and Warwick, Rhode Island. After getting to know each patients she becomes familiar with their schedules and will coordinate visits to help people during the times when it is most productive for them. A typical day can include visits to patients recovering from surgery to heart failure. Home health care gives patients peace of mind, as they can rely on her instruction and guidance to prevent them from needing further hospital visits. For that reason, patients look forward to the reliability her visits bring in addition to the companionship. Gina’s favorite part is, “The fact that they look forward to you coming; it’s kind of like seeing a family member.”

Home Health Care During COVID-19

While quarantine restrictions were in place, healthcare workers became some of the only people immunocompromised patients would see for long periods of time. While the COVID-19 pandemic was always a factor to consider in healthcare, patients discharged from hospitals under a variety of circumstances were still in need of personalized healthcare. Nurses like Gina found ways to go above and beyond to protect these patients through PPE and sanitization measures while supporting their recovery. The emotional toll of social distancing and anxiety around the coronavirus added another level to Gina’s role. Because of their consistent visits, home health care nurses like Gina notice things patients might overlook. That can be emotions, like anxiety or depression, or concrete ways of improving a patient’s accommodations. Through getting to know patients as people and understanding their circumstances firsthand, Gina believes it becomes easier to meet their needs.

Finding Cedars Home Health Care

A pivotal factor in Gina’s career in healthcare was her father. While she was in nursing school her father became very ill. His circumstances were an important factor in her decision to advance her health care career through working with patients directly. At each stage in her career, Gina has always found that there is always a deeper level to healthcare. As a mother of two, Gina has found the right balance between work and home at The Cedars. Getting to know patients on a personal level, like family, is to her the most important step in the recovery process.
