Physical Therapy
Physical
Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants are
professionals trained in recognizing loss of and
restoring strength, range of motion, balance,
coordination, posture, endurance and mobility.
Often a change of function is due to medical
illness, disease process, traumatic injuries, or
lack of mobility. Our rehabilitation team uses a
variety of equipment including treadmill,
recumbent stationary bikes, parallel bars,
exercise mats, weights, Wii games, and areas for
stair and ramp training. Our physical therapists
provide individualized assessments and treatment
plans geared to include the goals of patients
and their families. Patients are often surprised
at the progress they make under our tailored
approach to therapy. In fact, seventy-five
percent (75%) of our patients return home in
less than two weeks.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational
Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants
focus on increasing, enhancing and adapting task
development skills to increase the level of
independence and autonomy for our patients.
Occupational therapy in this setting typically
includes retraining of activities such as
bathing, grooming, dressing, cooking, feeding,
or other tasks required to reach desired goals.
Physical exercises are used in conjunction with
task-oriented training for improving
flexibility, strength, coordination, and
cognition in preparation for higher level
skills. Compensatory techniques such as adaptive
equipment, changing the environment or
alternative methods are taught.
Speech Therapy
Speech Therapists
evaluate and treat patients to maximize
communication and interaction with others, as
well as enhance swallowing, chewing, and
oral-motor control. After thorough evaluation,
speech therapists make recommendations for food
and drink consistency and texture to prevent
illness caused by improper swallowing. They
train patients in communications skills, such as
voice quality, volume, listening and
comprehension. |
